The Tampa Bay Section of the American Chemical Society (section # 406) was established in 1994. We promote public awareness of chemistry by being involved in outreach programs in our community and work with students to encourage an interest in the chemical science arena.
Our membership is encompasses the Hillsborough, Pinellas, Pasco, Hernando, Manatee and Sarasota counties with 700+ members. The American Chemical Society (ACS) is one of the largest professional organizations that represent the chemical industry. The ACS supports 160,000+ members globally, publishing its weekly C&EN magazine and up-to-date scientific journals. |
Volunteer with our local section!
National Chemistry Week (NCW) is coming up, and the Tampa Bay ACS Local Section is looking for volunteers to help make this year’s celebration a success!
This year’s NCW theme is “Chemistry Under Construction,” and we’ll be hosting an event at the Museum of Science & Industry (MOSI) on:
Sunday, October 18, 2026
1:00–4:00 PM
Museum of Science & Industry (MOSI)
Volunteers will have the opportunity to help with hands-on chemistry activities and demonstrations for students and families, as well as general event support and outreach. Whether you’d like to help lead an activity, assist with setup and cleanup, or lend a hand wherever needed, we’d love to have you involved!
Interested in volunteering? Please fill out our short volunteer interest form

Southeastern Regional Meeting of the American Chemical Society (SERMACS) 2026 – November 4–7, 2026 | Memphis, TN
SERMACS 2026 will take place November 4–7 in Memphis, Tennessee. Dr. Christie Tang will be representing the Tampa Bay ACS Local Section at the Steering Committee Meeting. Several USF Chemistry faculty members, including Dr. Jin Jia, Dr. Ying Wang, Dr. Chavdar Slavov, and Dr. Minsoo Ju, will also be attending. The USF Chemistry Department is supporting their attendance and will also have a booth showcasing the Chemistry PhD program. Members of Dr. Slavov’s research group will also be attending.
We also wanted to share a symposium opportunity being organized by Dr. Chavdar Slavov: Ultrafast and Nonlinear Spectroscopy Symposium- The symposium will bring together researchers using ultrafast and nonlinear spectroscopic tools to understand excited-state dynamics, photochemical reactivity, charge and energy transfer, and light-driven processes in molecules, materials, and biological systems. Featured keynote speakers include Prof. Munira Khalil from the University of Washington and Prof. Matthew Sfeir from Georgia Tech. The symposium will include invited lectures, contributed talks, and a poster session, with students, postdocs, and early-career researchers especially encouraged to participate.
